There are 5 airports that can land you in Greater London or near it. There are only 2 airports in city borders. It is Heathrow and London city airports. Luton, Stansted and Gatwick are outside city borders. You can find there locations on the image below.
How far are Luton, Stansted and Gatwick airports from Oxford Street tube station?
Luton - 27 miles (46 km), Stansted - 31 miles (53 km) and Gatwick - 25 miles (43 km) away from heart of London.
Luton airport
Luton is probably the smallest public airport near London. It is also located further from Greater London than others. However it is UKs fastest growing airport. According to Luton airport website there were 7.5 million passengers during 2004 calendar year.
There are few options how to travel to London from Luton airport. It can be a public bus link service or national rail service.
Buss service
There is non Nation Express bus service operating. You can catch the bus every half an hour from London to Luton as well as from Luton to London.
National Rail service
It is very easy to manage your journey by train. Train services to Luton are operating at least once per hour from Kings Cross station (Pentonville Road, Greater London, N1 9NL) and from London St Pancras station (Pancras Road, London, Greater London, NW1 2QP).
Stansted airport
Stansted airport is based in South-West outside London. It is the 4th busiest airport in the UK. There are over 40 airlines serving over 140 destinations. There are few ways to get to Stansted. Two of the are a National Express bus service and Stansted Express.
National Express bus service
National Express bus service operates from London Victoria coach station (164 Buckingham Palace Road, London, SW1W 9TP) or from Stratford coach station near Stratford tube (Station Street, London, E15 1AZ).
Stansted Express
Probably the fastest way to get to Stansted airport is Stansted Express rail service. Operating between London Liverpool Street (Bishopsgate, London, Greater London, EC2M 7PY) and Stansted airport. Gatwick airport
Gatwick is the busiest single runway airport in the world. It is also second largest airport in the UK and 7th busiest international airport in the world. Around 90 airlines operate from Gatwicks two terminals, serving around 200 destinations.
In 2005 there was build a walk bridge between south and north terminals. This bridge is so high that the largest plane "Superjumbo" Jet can easily run under it.
Before building this bridge there were long queues waiting for train that could transfer people from one terminal to another.

Journey to Gatwick airport
Gatwick Express
Your journey will be more pleasant with Gatwick Express rail service. This service operates from Greater London Victoria station (Victoria Street, London, SW1V 1JU). There are first class coaches. All coaches are air conditioned and it is a direct train. Which means your journey will be fast and pleasant.
National Rail service
Another rail service is available from London Victoria and London Bridge (Station Approach, Greater London, SE1 9SP). These trains may have few local stops before Gatwick airport and in some cases you have to change your train.
National Express bus service
Bus service operating from London Victoria coach station (164 Buckingham Palace Road, London, SW1W 9TP). There is also National Express connection between Luton, Stansted, Gatwick and Heathrow airports.
Heathrow airport
Heathrow is the worlds busiest international airport. Regarded as the hub of the aviation world, around 90 airlines have made Heathrow there base. The airport has four terminals and fifth terminal is under construction. The airport serves over 180 travel destinations. Fifth terminal will be opened on March 2008 and will cater approximately 30 million passengers every year.
In additional to the main terminal building, T5 also consists of two satellite buildings (the second of which will be completed by 2011), 60 aircraft stands, a new traffic control tower. Also 4000 space multi-storey car park and 600-bed hotel.

How can I get to Heathrow airport?
There are several options to choose from in order to get to Heathrow. It is tube (Underground), by train using Heathrow Express or Heathrow Connect or by National Express bus service.
The Tube (Underground) service.
Take a Piccadilly Line service which goes to Heathrow Underground station. The tube will take you straight to Terminals 1, 2, and 3. More information can be found on tfl.gov.uk website
Heathrow Express & Heathrow Connect service
Heathrow Express trains are operating from London Paddington (Praed Street, Greater London, W2 1HQ) station to Heathrow Terminal 4.
Heathrow Connect will take you from London Paddington to Heathrow Terminals 1, 2, and 3.
National Express bus service
Bus service is operating from London Victoria coach station (164 Buckingham Palace Road, London, SW1W 9TP). It takes about 40 45 minutes to get from London Victoria to Heathrow airport. All busses have WC on board. Some also have a TV and wheelchair facilities for 1 person.
London City airport
London City Airport located 10 miles (17 km) from West End shopping and political district of London. It is also very close new business and financial centre Canary Warf. More information on londoncityairport.com
How can I get to London City airport?
London City airport is located near main London City transport links. You can use Airport Shuttle busses, local busses, taxi service or even Tube (Underground) links. From 15 December 2005 The Dockland Light Railway extension will be opened to London City Airport.
Airport Shuttle Busses
This service operates from and to Liverpool Street Station (Bishopsgate, London, Greater London, EC2M 7PY) via Canary Warf. Journey time is approximately 25 minutes. Buses run every 10 minutes from Monday to Friday and Sunday. On Saturday this service operates every 15 minutes.
Local busses
Bus 69 serves Silvertown, Canning Town, Stratford, Leytonstone and Walthamstow. Bus terminates at the airport. Departures are every 10 minutes from outside the terminal building.
Bus 473 serves Stratford, Silvertown, North Woolwich, and Prince Regent Station. It departs every 10 minutes from outside the terminal building.
Bus 474 serves Canning Town, North Woolwich and East Beckton via Silvertown. The bus stop is at the entrance to the airport.
Taxi service
Black cabs taxi straight outside the terminal building.
Tube (Underground) links
The nearest underground station is Canning Town (Jubilee line). You can use Shuttled Bus service. It will take about 5 10 minutes to the Airport.
